To Help Jog Your Memory

Aug 28, 2024

Here in the Netherlands, the summer holidays are (almost) over, depending on the area. That means students will return to their books, traineeships are about to begin, or people could start a new course. Do you know that being active, regardless of the intensity, is highly important to your emotional well-being and mental capacity? Your brain depends on you to do more than sit down and absorb information.

Brain Health

It is generally known that working out improves your mood, but physical exercise also profoundly affects skills. Sports help the brain to find new pathways which you need to process input. In other words, the little grey cells will work more smoothly, making it easier to memorize things. This benefits all sorts of learning, whether you want to dive into a new language, play an instrument, or become better at solving your daily crossword. And the good news is that the brain continues to develop throughout life. Therefore, the ability to learn new things is not necessarily related to age.

Recharging

While studying, you may become overwhelmed, the text on a page looks a bit blurry, or you no longer feel you are taking anything in. Or you are distracted for a different reason.

'Exercise is the key not only to physical health but to peace of mind' – Nelson Mandela

Currently, there is so much to take in, so much suffering going on, and the world being on fire—some peace of mind is indispensable. We all have hopes and dreams—no matter how small—yet these make us human and are crucial to who we are. Exercise is essential to help our brain process the stream of information we're dealing with daily and is also an excellent way to let off some steam.

Consequently, if you are able, why not take a break? You can go for a short run, have a refreshing shower afterward, and who knows: you might feel ready to take on a new chapter.

For now, we hope this explanation about exercise helps with your plans for after the Summer Break for those in the Northern Hemisphere or the Midterm Break for those in the Southern Hemisphere.

Apart from supporting you with your running adventures, Vortza has lots of exciting things coming up for the remaining months of this year. We can reveal that we'll be researching running as part of a multi-sports program and how these different workouts affect your overall and sport-specific training loads.
